Hi,

I've looked around in the documentation and in the forums a bit, and I'm
having a hard time figuring out
a pretty basic question...

What's the difference between the nexenta core (RC1), and the community
edition?
I'm building a home NAS, so the community edition seems obvious. It's
already at version 3.0.X,
so what is the deal with the core/beta/rc announcements on the front page?

Thanks!

Hi Bob,

Community Edition is a derivative. NexentaCore is the base distribution.

Yep, that was what I needed as context.

Is the current community edition based on the RC1 core, then?

Yes.. both are based on OpenSolaris build 134. RC1 may have some
additional patches, and these will soon be incorporated into CE as
well.

So here is a deeper question. Why does Nexenta Community require/run the gnu
user space?
Community edition is simply NCP + apache + Web management scripts.
Apache and other tools are all from the userland (ubuntu package
ports).

Does that answer your query?
